Students will take their chapter 2 mineral test today.

Second quiz on chapter 2 words.
Chapter 2 Review
Students will work on Chapter 2 review worksheet and mineral crossword today and tomorrow.  We will go over in class on Thursday to get ready for the Chapter 2 test on Minerals that is set for Friday Feb. 4th.
Mighty MIneral Cartoon
Students will work on their comic strips on their mineral of choice.  These activities are due on Friday Feb. 4th
Activity #1 Mineral Identification
Students will use the data they collected last week to identify 12 common minerals and their chemical formula.  They will answer the conclusion questions about the lab.  The mineral identification part is due today the questions will be due tomorrow Feb. 1st
Unit III Vocabulary Quiz #1
Students will take vocabulary quiz and organize second quarter notebooks which are due at the end of the period today.
Mineral Powerpoint Notes
Students will take notes on minerals from the powerpoint in class.
Computer Lab Mineral Mania
Students will work on mineral mania an interactive activity in the computer lab as an introduction to minerals.
Unit III Vocabualry
Students will work on definitions for chapter 2 which are due on Friday

Students will take the vocabulary quiz then they will begin the notes pages 46-54 properties of minerals.

A review of the chapter 6 vocabulary word due tomorrow at the beginning of the period.
Activity #4 Plotting Earthquakes and Volcanoes
Students will work on this activity Wednesday and Thursday and should understand the relationship between earthquakes and volcanoes.
Questions pages 178-181
Students will read pages 178-181 and answer questions on the location and formation of volcanoes along plate boundaries.  They will use this information in an activity they will start tomorrow on the relationship between earthquakes and volcanoes.  This is due tomorrow midway through the period. 
Activity #3 Locating epicenters
The students will be working on locating epicenter and interpreting data from a graph on Monday and Tuesday.  They will understand that p waves travel faster than s waves and that the most damage in an earthquake usually occurs near the epicenter

Students will take notes and be able to explain how a convection current works as it pertains to the mantle of the earth.

The students will be working on the model of the earth's interior From 11-2 to 11-9.  It is an excellent activity to get them familiar with the layers of the earth and the characteristics of each layer.  The activity is due on 11/10

Activity #7 Measuring Mass
Students will use three methods to determine the mass of objects. This lab will run through tomorrow October 14th and is due at the end of the period.
Volume Activity #6
Students will measure the volume of regular and irregular shaped objects using a metric ruler and the water displacement method.  They will also measure the volume of water and learn to make scatter plots to show their results. This lab will continue through tomorrow and the lab write up is due on Friday october 15th

Students will define the Unit 1 vocabulary words. There will be a quiz over 6-10 words from that list every Friday.  Extra credit (10 points) can be earned by creating and using flash cards.  Due 9/17
